Mother Liang walked into the house carrying a shopping bag. The well-behaved Qiao Ting was wiping the tables and chairs in the living room. Seeing her mother coming back, she quickly put down the rags, helped lift things, and put them on the kitchen counter.
“Mom, what are you going to cook today?” Qiao Ting flipped through the ingredients curiously.
“I will cook all your favorites!” Mother Liang put on her apron and squeezed her daughter’s round face.
“Are there any scrambled eggs?” Qiao Ting asked enthusiastically.
“No.”
“Are there any braised eggs?”
“No.”
“Poached eggs?”
“None.”
Qiao Ting wrinkled her face and was aggrieved that there were no eggs.
“You just know how to eat eggs. No wonder you almost got duck eggs last time.” [Duck eggs = zero :)]
“Why do you say that,” Qiao Ting protested. “That question was really difficult and not many passed.”
“You can’t blame them if you get eight points!”
“Okay, let me cook steamed eggs for you!” Mother Liang could only compromise.
“Great!” Qiao Ting happily clapped her hands.
“However, if your grades continue to go on like this, it really won’t work. You will have to take the high school entrance exam. If you continue like that, you won’t make it.” Mother Liang’s tongue was sharp.
“Don’t curse me. I’m working hard but once the test paper is issued, I won’t know it. I can’t help it!” Qiao Ting shrugged helplessly.
Just like the English alphabet letters, she recognizes all 26 letters but when combined, they look like foreigners. Everyone looks like they don’t know who is who.
“So I want to take advantage of the last six months to help you find a tutor.”
Thinking about the other children who are in review school, only her Qiao Ting is studying at home because she doesn’t like review school.
“If you don’t have a problem, it’s useless on your own. Someone must come and help you.”
“What? Tutor? Tutoring is expensive, Mom. No, I will study hard. Don’t spend money!”
Her mom’s salary plus bonus for a month is not enough and they still pay for for the living expenses and loans. Where would she get the money for a tutor?”
“Rest assured, this tutor is free.”
“Is there such a good thing? Who is so kind?”
“The neighbor’s Bo Yun is willing to be your tutor.”
“What?” Qiao Ting stared at her mom in shock, “You told Bo Yun about my bad exam results?”
“I didn’t say that you almost got a duck egg in you test, only that your grades were all 60 points. See, I gave you face.”
“Mom, tiger can’t eat seeds! Why did you tell Bo Yun that my grades are not good!” Qiao Ting collapsed and yelled.
… Mother Liang glanced at her. The idiom was wrong. No wonder she could not understand the questions on the examination papers! The level of her daughter’s Chinese language is also terrible!
[Qiao Ting’s idiom is wrong. It should be “A tiger won’t eat grass no matter how hungry it is”. it just means that no matter how dire the situation is, you won’t use your last resort :)]
“These are two different things!” Qiao Ting said confidently.
“I think it’s just the same!” Mother Liang couldn’t help but protest. “I have already told Bo Yun that starting from tomorrow, after dinner, he will tutor you.”
“Bo Yun also has to study!” Qiao Ting stomped her foot.
She shouldn’t let Bo Yun know that her academic performance has reached the limit!
She wants face too!
Her mother doesn’t understand a girl’s heart!
“Bo Yun is terribly smart, ah!” Mother Liang couldn’t breath. “There are two eggs, why is one 100 and the other is 8?”
Qiao Ting’s jaw dropped.
“Go and tear the stuff on both sides of the pod!” Mother Liang gave her a bag of bean pods.
Seeing her daughter aggrieved and angry, mother Liang felt both angry and amused.
She really hopes that after this tutorial, at least get 60 points. Otherwise, it really is…
The future is worrying!
