Chapter 20 – Heartbeat
Luo Zhuowei sat quietly on the sofa, her eyes were restrained and polite as she slowly looked at the place where Chen Hang lived.
It's a little different from what she thought a guy’s apartment would look like.
The difference is that Chen Hang's home is very clean, and if you smell it carefully, you can still smell the perfume that Chen Hang urgently used as a temporary air freshener. There are no bells and whistles in the living room, and everywhere you look at, there is a sense of ‘minimalism’.
In the same way, there is a bit of life in the neatness of this home. For example, when she just sat down, she saw the school uniform jacket casually draped on the back of the sofa, and then Chen Hang apologized and hurriedly stuffed the coat back into his room.
"There are no drinks in the fridge."
What brought her back to her senses was Chen Hang's voice.
She looked in the direction where the voice came from, and Chen Hang, who had changed into his home clothes, was bending down to put a steaming mug of water on the coffee table in front of her.
The collar of his sweatshirt was a little loose, and when he bent down, the oversized neckline also hung softly, revealing a half-collarbone with obvious lines, and with it, a thin dog-tag-like necklace around his neck.
Chen Hang looked at her, and his voice, which was lowered due to the fever, sounded a little hoarse: "It's just plain water, is it okay?"
"It’s fine."
Luo Zhuowei watched Chen Hang sit on the sofa on the left, instead of sitting on the couch with her, feeling that her chest was clenched by an emotion of both relief and loss.
She was nervous.
For the first time, she felt nervous in front of a boy.
If it weren't for this rain, she would definitely have chosen to give up the moment when she handed out the paper. Her original intention in coming to visit had consumed all her reservedness, and if it wasn’t for Lin Haoyuan’s provocation, she would have lost her courage even before leaving school.
How could she have been so overwhelmed?
I am afraid that the relationship between them is only in the category of "classmates with better relationship" in his opinion, and her sudden actions is only superficial because of the shame in her heart: she wants to be discovered by him, but she also doesn't want him to see through this kind of humiliating feeling.
At this time, she couldn't say a word, so she could only pick up the water cup and drink carefully to hide her embarrassment.
Silence is really a breeding ground for ambiguity, and it is almost blatantly conveying the signal of the "two people are alone" in the air, and with the sound of rain outside the window, even the flow of the atmosphere felt by the senses becomes sticky and sluggish.
Chen Hang probably also sensed that this atmosphere was really a little wrong, he looked at the clock hanging on the wall, and tentatively threw out the topic: "You shouldn't have eaten when you came over after school, right?"
He looked at her: "Do you feel a little hungry?"
It may be due to tension, but in fact, Luo Zhuowei did not feel hungry.
"It's okay.” She was not particularly hungry either. But she still said an ambiguous answer to the topic.
The normal start of the conversation seemed to make Chen Hang breathe a sigh of relief, his expression seemed to relax a little, he smiled at her, got up and walked to the open kitchen: "I don't know when the rain will be lighter."
"If you don't mind, I'll just cook noodles, and we can eat them together." He opened the refrigerator, propped one hand on his knees, and the other hand held the refrigerator door, looking seriously at what ingredients he could find to make a meal. “There isn’t much in the fridge either…”
Luo Zhuowei also got up, walked behind Chen Hang and looked at the ingredients in his hand with some curiosity: "Tomatoes, eggs…”
"Chen Hang." She recalled something from Chen Hang’s words, laughed softly, her eyes took on a little teasing, and watched Chen Hang dig out a pack of noodles from another cabinet, "Do you know how to cook?"
"Of course! I have to be able to do it if I live alone." The rich young master, who’s cooking skills were questioned, scratched his hair a little because of embarrassment, glanced at Luo Zhuowei, and went to boil water. His eyes showed that he was aggrieved, which matched the corners of his drooping eyes and tear moles, making him look innocent, “It’s not particularly delicious though…”
The last sentence showed sullenness.
"Then I'll do it."
Luo Zhuowei couldn't help laughing, stretched out her hand and gently pulled Chen Hang's sleeve, and let go of it as soon as she touched it: "In terms of cooking, I'm quite confident."
“Then it's up to you.”
The open kitchen in the one-bedroom single apartment couldn't be very large, just enough to accommodate two people, and Luo Zhuowei's actions made Chen Hang realize that the distance between the two people had long exceeded the safe distance.
Is that okay?
Even if it was him, he realized that this seemed to be too intimate. But the other party's expression doesn't look unusual, and if he rashly avoids it, isn't it the same as that kind of stupid boy who pretends to be amorous?
And Luo Zhuowei, who has already started to cook noodles, looks like a very capable girl. She neatly tied up her hair, revealing her fair neck, her sleeves were also rolled up, and her posture of washing and chopping vegetables both looked skillful and beautiful.
Coupled with her pleasing face, Chen Hang almost thought that he was watching some cooking show.
But no matter how you look at the current situation, the guest is cooking, so Chen Hang, who is unhappy in his heart and suffered from the fact that he really doesn't know how to cook, can only stay next to Luo Zhuowei like a useless dog circling around its master and trying to help.
"Get me some tomatoes."
Luo Zhuowei, who was staring at the noodles in the pot seriously, was probably too involved in her task that she forgot that she was not in her own house now, and the person next to her was not her father or mother who usually helped her out.
"I'm sorry!" It wasn't until Chen Hang's voice sounded in her ears that she suddenly reacted to her words, which sounded too bossy. Luo Zhuowei's fair face was dyed a thin red because of shame, "Wait a minute, Chen Hang, I, I'll do it by myself."
"It's okay, I've already brought it. Be careful!”
Luo Zhuowei, who was in a hurry to stop the other party, collided with Chen Hang, who just turned around with the tomato on hand.
Coupled with Luo Zhuowei's back to the boiling pot, Chen Hang could only force her in his direction to prevent her from falling backwards on the cooking pot with such a high temperature.
But as a result, under the inertia of his action, two people fell together.
The girl was on top of the guy.
Their eyes are facing each other.
The culprit, the tomato, they didn’t know where it had rolled over into, and the water in the pot was boiling, and everything sounded normal.
Except for the loud heartbeat sound that they didn’t know whose.
