Chapter 16 – Divorce
Ji Mingshu asked the driver to drive straight to the headquarter building of JunYi Group. She had no interest in appreciating the scenery outside the window. Whether she opened her eyes or closed them, many scenes of her marriage with Cen Sen kept replaying in her mind.
She originally wanted to inform Cen Sen first.
But when she opened WeChat, she remembered that she had deleted Cen Sen as a friend, and there was no request from him in the new friend list.
It shouldn't have been there in the first place, and she didn't know why she clicked on it just to give it a try.
She thought seriously, sometimes are there really some things that are destined, for example: she and Cen Sen are destined to not to be compatible.
She remembered that when Cen Sen first arrived at the villa compound as a child, she thought this brother was very handsome, so she took the initiative to show kindness to him several times, and even shared her favorite snacks with him, but he was always silent and ignored her.
After being treated coldly so many times, she no longer had such good patience. Even at a young age, she even began to hate him because of this. She gathered her friends in the compound to isolate him.
However, Cen Sen is two years older than her group of friends were of the same age as her, and Cen Sen did not mind the isolation of these childish kids.
From then on, all the way through elementary school, junior high school, and high school, Cen Sen was always two grades higher than her. No matter where she went, he was an impeccable model student. The teachers praised him highly, and he was the one who gave speeches on stage eight out of ten times.
She felt very annoyed, and became increasingly disgusted and impatient with his existence. Sometimes when they met at school, she would just pass by him without even looking at him, and snort coldly, or blow a bubble gum and then burst it with a "pop".
Cen Sen became even colder. He didn't even look at her and simply ignored her existence.
So later, by chance, they slept with each other and got married. Cen Sen was still the same as he was when they were children, and he looked down on her in every way.
It's just that the adult world has an extra layer of disguise. He will wrap her in a gentle coat to raise her, the canary that he doesn't like but is willing to sleep with.
I often joke with Gu Kaiyang that I am a canary. When I think about it carefully, it is surprisingly appropriate.
On weekend mornings, the capital's business center is still crowded with people.
The half-month hotel inspection had just ended. After landing in the imperial capital, Cen Sen had another meeting early in the morning. He hadn't had time to eat breakfast yet. As he walked to the office, he asked his assistant to make a cup of black coffee.
"What's the situation? Which media reported it?"
Back in the office, Cen Sen put on his glasses and continued to look at the evaluation materials for the new hotel at hand, and asked about what happened.
On the way back just now, Zhou Jiaheng gave him a brief account in the car, but he was in no mood to listen more because he needed to concentrate on the upcoming meeting.
Zhou Jiaheng explained the whole story in detail, paused for a moment, and then said, "During the meeting, Miss Zhang Baoshu and Mr. Zhang both called to apologize. Both sides said it was a misunderstanding and the news would be removed immediately."
"Misunderstanding." Cen Sen didn't move his eyes away. He signed the document in the lower right corner and ordered calmly, "Call Zhang Qi and tell him that JunYi has decided to stop following up on the Xijiao project due to personal matters implicating the business. I find it hard to believe that they can have a correct attitude at work."
Zhou Jiaheng lowered his eyes, "Yes."
Cen Sen suddenly changed the subject and asked, "Where's my wife?"
But he didn't know what he was thinking. Without waiting for an answer, he continued, "Forget it, cancel or postpone tonight's arrangements. Go pick up the bracelet that Mr. Xie gave you last time."
Zhou Jiaheng answered "yes" again, and seeing that Cen Sen didn't say anything else, he quietly left the office.
The office was silent. Cen Sen rubbed his brows, leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes and rested for half a minute. He had a premonition that he would have to fight a tough battle tonight.
"Ma'am, may I ask you..."
"Step aside."
Ji Mingshu didn't even look at the building security, she walked in her high heels with a cool aura.
The bodyguard who was usually almost invisible in front of Ji Mingshu finally showed up and explained her identity to the security personnel.
Ji Mingshu didn't even turn back to respond. She just let the man make way for her. She wore sunglasses, folded her hands in front, and walked into Cen Sen's private elevator with an expressionless face.
"Who is that woman? She's so pretty and cool. She looks like a celebrity."
"She entered the special elevator of the CEO. She must be CEO Cen's girlfriend."
"Isn't Mr. Cen married?"
"That's his wife?"
The front desk was discussing in low voices, and security helped them confirm the answer.
Yes, that’s right, it’s Mr. Cen’s wife.
So during the few minutes that Ji Mingshu was standing in the elevator, the news that Mrs. Cen had come to visit the president spread quickly among all the department in the company, whether big or small, as if a 5G network had been connected.
"Mrs. President, your aggressive attitude makes me feel like you are here to catch the adulterers."
"Caught an adulterer? Is Mr. Cen having an affair with one of his beautiful assistant?"
"That's impossible. Every time he goes out, women stay a meter away from him. It's better to say that he and Assistant Zhou are having an affair."
"Woman, you have caught my attention. Here is the pen. I will arrange the fan fiction for you. Thank you."
Although some people noticed Ji Mingshu's aura of catching the adulterer, because the minor news was managed on her way here, no one gossiped about the female star.
All the employees of the group knew that she was coming, and Cen Sen was not so blind and deaf as to know nothing about it. What's more, she was accompanied by bodyguards, and clearing the way for her was a tacit consent from him.
When Ji Mingshu arrived at the 68th floor, the office door was already open for her, and Cen Sen's very imposing row of assistants also stood up and lined up to welcome her.
Ji Mingshu had a blank expression on her face. She encouraged herself in her heart and walked straight into Cen Sen's office without stopping.
Cen Sen was sitting in his office, wearing a pair of light gold glasses with thin frames, giving him the temperament of a gentleman.
Ji Mingshu stopped in front of his desk, muttered to herself, and then smashed the printed but unbound divorce agreement in the table.
"Let’s divorce."
She had silently adjusted her voice several times on the way here, striving to achieve a cool and aloof sound with a hint of indifference, disdain, and determination.
After saying that, she folded her arms in front of her again and looked down at him with disdainful eyes.
“…”
Cen Sen closed his eyes and held the paper. After three seconds of silence, he pressed it onto the table again. He did not raise his eyes and there was a brief silence.
In fact, the moment he found out that Ji Mingshu came to JunYi, he was prepared to deal with it, and even thought about how to simplify the explanation process and shorten the nonsense time.
But, he have to admit it.
He never thought that Ji Mingshu would file for divorce.
During this period of time after returning to China, Ji Mingshu always seemed to give him some surprises, and this "divorce" was the biggest surprise.
He took off his glasses, pinched his nose lightly, and then turned on the projection equipment behind Ji Mingshu.
"Turn back."
Ji Mingshu glanced back subconsciously.
A dashcam video clip soon appeared on the screen. Although the device did not capture anyone's face, Ji Mingshu quickly matched it with the photos she had seen in the magazine.
The sound from the dashcam was a bit noisy and the recording was not clear, but the office was quiet. She listened carefully and seemed to hear key words such as "not as good as my wife" and "wash your face and wake up."
Just then, Zhou Jiaheng knocked on the door.
Cen Sen: "Come in."
Zhou Jiaheng walked in and saw Ji Mingshu. He didn't seem surprised and nodded politely. Then he reported to Cen Sen in a serious manner: "President Cen, I have conveyed your intention to Mr. Zhang, but Mr. Zhang still wants to talk to you in person."
"Put the phone in."
Zhou Jiaheng responded and placed the red velvet jewelry box on his desk, "This is the madam’s bracelet."
After saying this, he quietly left the office.
Soon, Zhang Qi's call came into the office, and Cen Sen directly put it on the line.
Then Ji Mingshu listened to Zhang Qi, the person involved, explaining the whole story. In short, in Zhang Qi's words, Cen Sen was a pure and innocent snow lotus from the Tianshan Mountains who could remain calm and unperturbed by beauty.
Cen Sen only said "hmm" from time to time, playing with the diamond bracelet in his hand. When Ji Mingshu understood, he hung up the phone.
“…”
Ji Mingshu stared at the bracelet in his hand.
She recognized it. It was a Van Cleef & Arpels bracelet that had been sold at Christie's before. The price was not that exaggerated. She vaguely remembered that it was more than one million US dollars. She liked it a little.
[Christie’s is a British auction house.]
No, this doesn't seem to be the focus right now.
She came back to her senses.
Oh, so, she had suffered all the way from the magazine company to now, recalling the past and looking forward to the future, imagining a lot of nonsense, and almost cried for this bastard, and her personality collapsed – all of this for a misunderstanding.
...It's really wonderful.
Her melancholy and sadness disappeared in an instant, and what was left was only a slight embarrassment at the ridiculous inner drama she had been playing out along the way.
"Do you still want to divorce?"
“…”
The little canary was silent.
Cen Sen loosened his tie and looked at her calmly, "If I don't do well enough and you really can't stand it and insist on getting a divorce, then I respect your opinion."
"But Mingshu, you may need me to help you recall the prenuptial agreement. After the divorce, I'm afraid you won't be able to continue collecting rare Birkin leathers, take a private jet to Milan to watch fashion shows, and buy a 15-carat Sri Lankan sapphire diamond ring without blinking an eye..."
"Wait," Ji Mingshu was already sober, "I think... I can still bear it a little longer."
The slight embarrassment deepened.
Ji Mingshu didn't expect that he, who was not connected to the Internet, was so capable. He actually knew that she liked to collect birkins and take pictures of various gems and diamonds, and at this moment he took out a pretty bracelet to bribe her.
Of course she was very touched and happily chose to accept it.
Hearing Ji Mingshu's answer, Cen Sen didn't know why, but he suddenly felt relieved.
Without changing his expression, he stood up and walked to Ji Mingshu, then lifted her wrist and put the diamond bracelet on her.
The light scent of fir hit Ji Mingshu's nose, and she didn't know why, but besides being embarrassed, she also felt a small, uncontrollable joy in her heart.
She hypnotized herself: It must be because I was so happy that I could continue to spend money lavishly in the future. Yes, that's right, that's it.
She suppressed the urge to curl up the corners of her lips, cleared her throat, and emphasized: "If you really cheated on me, I would really want a divorce. I will let it go this time and forgive you.”
"Thank you very much."
